Eric, I watched so many dog training videos in youtube. You are the best because you are not talking much to us as well as to the dog. You talk briefly. I really appreciate for your gentle talk.
This is a useful way to teach your dog to stand next to you. I would slap my side and say SIDE! while teaching this one instead of “heel” as I reserve that one for when we’re in motion. This technique can lay a starting foundation for a solid “SIDE” command. My dog responded pretty well to it.
Well, it will be a lot of repetition before you get a strict 10cm. Start by sitting your dog next to you while standing next to a wall. Stand close to a wall and get your dog to squeeze in next to you and sit, then reward him. The dog will start to get used to standing close to you. From there you can teach a heel as you walk your dog.
